After the overwhelming success of my post on Friday, where I gave away a Clarity Map about creating attention-grabbing headlines for blog posts, Twitter posts, and so on, I decided to hold off giving you another video about unexpectedly cool ways of using Google (which was my plan for today), and instead give you another useful Clarity Map.
Today's Clarity Map reveals the art of crafting an effective USP, or Unique Selling Proposition.
What's a USP?
Well, you might know it better as a slogan, or tagline - a memorable phrase that is used to identify a company or product.
Why is it a good idea for you to craft one for YOUR product or business? Well, let me ask you, what instantly pops into your brain when you see or hear the phrases:
- Just Do It!
- Melts in your mouth, not in your hands
- What Can Brown Do For You?
Now think about your reaction to each of these phrases. When you read them, did you see images of the product? Did you remember the experience you had using the product (like the crunchy-chocolaty experience of eating M&M's? Or did you instantly replay some of the commercials you've seen related to the product?
You just experienced the effect of a powerful USP.
How can you benefit from learning how to create an effective USP?
You can use a USP to:
- Brand your blog
- Brand a product
- Brand your business
- Brand you
Now, when developing a USP, it's important to realize that not just any ol' phrase will do!
A great USP needs to have specific characteristics in order for you to get the maximum benefit from it.
To make the whole process easier, here's the Develop A USP Clarity Map, which I'd like to give you.
Here's how to use it:
- Download it now (of course)
- Print it
- Laminate it
- Put it somewhere handy, and use it as a reference tool
Look for another Google video tomorrow, and then Wednesday...well, let's just I've got a very special post for Wednesday, so please check back.
