Pay attention, because I've got something to share with you today that you're going to find really valuable.
First, let me ask you a couple questions...
Are you a content creator of some sort - an author, information product creator, blogger, etc?
If you are, do you know what the key element to attracting people to your content is?
It's really very simple...
It's all about giving them solutions to their nagging problems and answering the all questions weighing on their mind.
Provide value to them, and they'll return the favor, most of the time in the form of paying you $$$.
So, how do you know what kinds of things people in your niche (or any niche, for that matter) need answers and solutions to?
Well, the most obvious way is to simply ask someone in that niche; 'Hey Nancy, what challenges do you have with writing a resume?'
While you can get some usable feedback by doing this, chances are, Nancy won't be able to think of too many problems when she's put on the spot like that. Not only that, but she may have written a dozens of resumes in her time, so writing one may not be that big of a deal to her in particular.
A great alternative to this sometimes useful approach is to tap into a bigger and more revealing source - the collective minds of the world, as made available by Google.
Let me explain what I mean, then provide you with some examples.
As you're probably aware (hopefully you are), anytime you (or anyone else) do a search on Google, they keep track of your query - whether it's a search for used car parts or a question you want answered about wedding invitations.
Over time, they've built up a substantial database of these queries, which they now make available on their site in the form of what they call, suggested searches:
Now, what's really great about this feature, is that if you type a search in the form of a question, Google will display relevant questions that people have asked about a topic. This can be a real eye-opener about some of the problems people are experiencing related to that topic.
Let's look at the topic of wedding invitations as an example:
By adding, how to, in front of our actual search term, Google reveals to us just a small portion of the questions people have about the topic.
Let's look at another example, this time for blood pressure (these examples are completely off the top of my head):
As you can see, in this example, I typed the word, why, before my actual search term of blood pressure. Once again, Google shows us just some of the why-related questions people have about blood pressure (there are many more that can be discovered beyond what is shown in this screen shot).
These are just a couple of the techniques you can use to uncover the problems that people in a niche want answered - there are many more.
I've compiled some of the best techniques and strategies I know into an easy-to-read, 40-page guide that I'm releasing today, called:

Derek, Being an SEO Geek and Market research dude, finding out what people want is SOOO important. I was just working on a landing page when your email about this came in. Good timing..
I had not really thought too much about using this technique for research so thanks. It makes sense. So many people just focus on the keyword tools which only gives 50% of the story :)
Thanks for an informing and valuable post.

Derek,
Another brilliant Indiana idea! Ah, we midwesterners, what a brilliant lot.
Love your new site and am one of your biggest Search Automator fans.
I am moving to Cebu, in the Philippines and will be working in outsourcing, prod development and proj management but will surely be doing some things on my own and this tool will be a great help.
Tons of success to you in 2010!

Derek, WHY do you do this to me? Every time you put out a new product, I end up buying it? :-)
I've been looking for something like this, so it's very welcome. Looking forward to reading - and using! - every word. And your process maps make your book much more valuable.

Derek,
I purchased your ebook last night and read it two times and then a third walking myself through a niche that I was interested in. By the time I completed my third walk through I outlined a new info product. Today and tomorrow I will write the thing. For me this ebook tied together some things I had been struggling with.
I'll probably be back on Friday to purchase The Copy Writer's Brain...I have sneaking suspicion you will be able to free up some issues there also.
Good work as usual!
Folks, Derek is the real deal - I purchased his first Search Automator back in the day and it was/still is a tool I turn to daily.

WOW!
Thank you all for such great feedback, and to most of you, for being such loyal customers.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. :)
The Brain Digger process is something I've used for a while, and it's one of those simple ideas I mentioned in my 'new year' video that I wanted to share with everyone.
I hope you continue to get value from it, and if you have any tips to make it better, please share them.
BTW, due to something not working quite right in my brain, I failed to include the Brain Digger Field Guide in the original ebook download.
If your copy doesn't have it as the last page in the book, try downloading the PDF file again from the original link, or email me with your receipt and I'll send you a link.
Thanks again, everyone!
More great stuff is on the way... :)
